The Art of Color and Balance in Design

At The Imaginative Me, design is rooted in purpose. Every visual decision — from layout to color — begins with intention. My approach to color and balance in design is guided by a mix of intuition, experience, and a deep understanding of the brand’s story. Before anything else, I work to understand who we’re speaking to, what emotion we’re hoping to evoke, and how that message can be visually expressed in a way that feels both authentic and inspiring.

Design That Begins With Meaning

Before choosing a palette or refining a layout, I begin by learning what the brand wants to convey. I always ask: What is the story behind this brand? and Who are we speaking to?

That’s where my Dream Client Questionnaire comes in — helping uncover not only the audience, but the emotional foundation of the brand. Because great design doesn’t just look good — it feels right.

Color and Balance in Design: Where It Begins

Color is deeply emotional. I always begin with color psychology, not as a rigid system, but as a lens through which to view the energy and emotion we want to convey. Color influences perception, so what we show visually must align with what the brand stands for.

Rather than following fixed rules, I let the story guide the color palette. Sometimes that means contrast, sometimes calm. I’m inspired by the full spectrum found in nature — bold jewel tones, soft neutrals, rich earthy hues — and I choose what resonates most with the brand's identity.

Balancing Form + Feeling

When it comes to balance, I lean into rhythm, symmetry, and whitespace to let a design breathe. While I use alignment tools and intentional structure, a lot of it is intuitive — something I’ve developed through years of art classes and creative work.

I would describe my aesthetic as minimalist but expressive, flexible enough to meet the needs of each project. I believe that balance is what allows a design to feel both clean and powerful — guiding the viewer’s eye while allowing the story to unfold naturally.

Bringing Brands to Life Through Design

Every detail in my process — from font to color to spacing — supports the bigger picture: helping small businesses tell their story through thoughtful, strategic visuals. Whether I’m designing a logo, website, or packaging, I approach each brand with care and curiosity.

If you’re looking for branding rooted in meaning, backed by intentional design choices, and crafted with sustainability in mind — let’s create something together.
